Safety Ratings
There are a lot of different infant car seats on the market and they all differ from good to not so great. It's worth doing some research before you buy an infant car seat to ensure you know what to look for and which are the best evaluated. The good news is that even most affordable no-name infant car seats usually do well in crash tests.
Maxi cosi has been helping to keep children safe in Europe since 1984 and they've brought their expertise to the US with a line of rear facing only carseats. Their latest offering is called the Mico Max Plus and it appears to be a fantastic choice.
One of the things that makes this seat stand out is the fact that it can be used in a rear-facing position for a longer time than most other seats. This is significant because research has proven that babies are safer to be rear facing as long as they can. The Mico Max Plus can be used rear facing for up to 2 years!
Another thing that makes this seat distinct is it comes with a recline feature. Many infant car seats don't come with this feature, and it can be extremely beneficial in making it easier for your baby to sleep. The seat also offers a nice amount of padding, and the headrest/SIP is very nicely and padded.

The only negative with the Mico Max Plus is that it's not as simple to use as some other infant car seats. It's a little more difficult to get the seat at the right angle, and it takes a little more to tighten the harness. It's a little bit of a learner's curve to use the LATCH anchors, and tether.
Overall though the safety ratings for this car seat are very high. It's a top performer in our crash test and it's got very low g-forces both on the chest and head of the dummy.
This seat will not last longer than other models. According to CDC charts the child will outgrow it around age three. It's not easy to make them reach age five in this model. It has a weight limit of 40lbs and only one height adjustment. In the end, you'll probably need to upgrade to a booster seat that has no back or a bigger seat.
Easy of Use
Maxi-Cosi car seat for infants are among the most simple to use on the market and come with features that make buckling and unbuckling a breeze. They're also lightweight and compact, so they're easy to carry around and fit in the majority of cars. They can also be combined together with strollers of premium quality to create travel systems that allow baby to enjoy a luxurious ride from the moment they are born.
Whether you're running errands with your newborn or going on your family on a vacation, you want an infant car seat that will make each journey comfortable and enjoyable. In our ease of use tests, we looked at a wide range of factors that contribute to a seat's overall ease of use. The ease of installation and adjustment to the base, placing a child into the seat while securing the harness, and getting the child out were all considered. We also looked at how well the seat would fit in our vehicle and how the LATCH system worked with different vehicles.
The Mico 30 scored the highest in our user-friendliness tests, with a score that surpassed its rivals. Its lightweight design makes it easy to carry and is compatible with a variety of high-end strollers, making it a great choice for busy parents traveling. The seat has an umbrella sun canopy that has different positions as well as a flip-out visor to provide ample protection for your child. The ergonomic handle is designed so that it hugs your hips, reducing the strain on your back.
We also loved the Mico's seat pad, which is crafted with self-wicking fabric that deodorizes and wicks away liquids from the baby. It's easy to remove and machine washed for quick and easy cleaning. Additionally, the infant insert provides additional head and neck support for infants with smaller heads. In the recent Consumer Reports crash test, two of the Mico 30 LATCH straps tore right through the base's seat belt path. This could decrease the safety margin in a severe frontal collision. While this was a rare incident, it's important to note the potential for this issue when installing the car seat.
